ExterPassivity

The term "ExterPassive Video" (EPV) is used to describe video sequence featuring virtually no
events. There is no storyline, no characters and no visible perspective
changes in EPVs. The person perceiving ExterPassive video does not feel
the influence of camera man.

The person watching EPV
does not have to follow the course of thinking of movie director as
there is only one point of view throughout the entire video. That is why
the person watching an EPV should be called a ‘perceiver’ rather than a
"viewer".

The best metaphor for EPVs
is your room window. The picture you see through your window changes
spontaneously without being affected by anyone including you, the
perceiver. EPV is much like music we tend to put on and listen to
without actually "hearing" the words or the chords of a track but rather
getting a great mood while listening to it. The landscape fine arts are
also close to the EPV by spirit and the effect on the perceiver.

The difference of this
phenomenon from common video broadcasts is in passivity, when the
perceiver does not have to perform any physical or mental actions under
the influence of watching the video. Generally, movies, TV broadcasts,
entertainment programs and even the reality shows require the viewer to
participate with empathy.

On the contrary, you do not
even have to look at EPV all the time as nothing essential is happening
out there. It just exists on the background transferring atmosphere and
the mood of the given place.

The nearest match to EPV is
the genre of "relaxing videos" sometimes also called "wildlife videos".
The video sequence and musical score are selected basing on "viewer
relaxation" criterion in such products. The key point of "relaxing
videos" is that a person should be motivated to sit down, watch the
movie and relax (being a willful act). Moreover, the change of
perspective by the director of a movie makes relaxation somewhat partial
since a human being is involved in conscious mental activity at that
point.

Unlike "relaxing videos" ExterPassive Videos’ major goal is not to relax a
person but rather make a perceiver less tired during the day in front of
computer screen. EPVs do not require conscious mental activity such as
watching or switching to movie contents from the main course of actions.
An EPV lives its own life on the background without distracting you from
your work being a window to some parallel reality rather than a movie
player window on your desktop.
